Junior-senior prom.
A night students will never forget.
That nerve-racking day where seniors stress about getting ready for their last major high school event before finally graduating. For juniors, prom becomes a memorable night where they get to mingle with their peers and have one last chance to socialize with their favorite seniors.
“[Last year’s prom] was really nice, the venue was very pretty and felt fancy,” an anonymous senior said. “The theme was good, and overall it was pretty fun, [however] the DJ was not the best.”
Even with a few imperfections, the event will always be engraved into the hearts of the attendees. The mistakes and accidents that happen become funny memories. And the successes that come with a successful prom become moments that feel like a dream.
“It is an odd place to be in a ‘Stampede Room’, but the stockyards are pretty nice,” anonymous senior said. “[Hopefully,] it will look stunning and be a gorgeous event I can carry in my memories after I graduate.”
While there are mixed emotions towards the prom theme, students are excited to see what the prom committee has in store for them.
“I feel like [the prom theme] is so cute; it definitely fits the venue,” an anonymous prom committee member said. “We wanted something different from last year and incorporate all of our ideas into one theme.”
The prom committee has worked very hard to get a singular theme going, but the help of Prom Coordinator Rebecca Hunter and the cooperative communication between committee members are sure to lead to a rewarding end result.
“Prom planning was a very smooth process,” Hunter said. “I hope next year goes just as smoothly.”
Upperclassmen are getting their prom dresses and suits ready for the upcoming event. Some students decide to mix it up every year.
“[I change things up every year]; last year I went more red and gothic,” junior Mary Stiles said. “This year I went for brighter colors.”
From their tuxedos, to their dresses, to the makeup, all the effort students will put into the prom is exceptional.
“[I got my dress] probably about a month ago,” an anonymous junior said. “I hadn’t really planned [or] had any designs in mind, kind of just went to the store and bought a dress.”
Planning for prom is always a hard thing for students to do. Matching with your prom date, getting a last minute dress or tux, being picky, all of these are crucial factors to getting a start on prom.
“My date just asked if I wanted to go,” an anonymous junior said. “We’re dating, but [no promposal] was kind of lame.”
While some dates go out of their way to make a big promposal others don’t, and that is okay. However, for many, promposals definitely add more fun to the prom experience. Some advice for upcoming upperclassmen and future prom dates: if you plan to go to prom, dates always appreciate a promposal, simple or not.
“I feel like [prom] is more significant senior year,” junior Allison Boyanton said. “It is the last high school experience before graduation day.”
The night will be full of emotions and possibly tears. Saying goodbyes to friend is never easy. While it may be a nostalgic night for seniors, graduation day is still creeping around the corner.
“I am so excited for prom and to see the students in their fancy dresses and tuxes,” Hunter said. “All I want is to know that every student had a great time!”
As the last most extravagant formal of the year, prom night will be a night filled with fun activities, happy moments, and an ending to many people’s chapters.
“I think it is a right of passage for teenagers,” Boyanton said. “I’m very excited to take part in the event.”
