Jewell Bullard, is a young photographer whose name is as fitting as her talent. What started as a simple hobby has flourished into a thriving business, earning her recognition and admiration along her journey as a photographer. Her journey into the world of photography began by snapping photos for fun and experimenting with angles and lighting after being gifted a Nikon camera for Christmas. Soon after, her unknown natural talent did not take long to shine through. 

“Photography was something I stumbled upon, but it quickly became my passion,” Bullard said. “I love capturing moments that people can cherish forever. It’s about finding beauty in things and making it extraordinary. Every photo tells a story, and I’m just here to help capture those feelings and emotions into a single photographed moment.”

Encouraged by friends and family who saw the brilliance in her work, she decided to polish her skills and pursue photography more seriously. What was once just a hidden gem of a talent became the crown jewel of her creative pursuits. With each click of the shutter, Bullard refined her craft, learning and gaining in-depth knowledge of photography. This dedication paid off when she won Grand Champion Senior Photographer at the Johnson County Youth Fair—a crowning achievement that solidified her place as a rising star in the local photography scene. 

“It was so surreal. I went into it very blindly expecting to just gain feedback to improve my work. I never expected my work to be recognized like this, but it was such an honor to accept the award,” Bullard said. “After receiving first place, my dad gifted me a Canon EOS R5 because my hobby became something more and I wished to continue pursuing.”

She loves photographing graduation and senior photos, weddings, and new photography concepts. Her signature style leans toward warm, bright aesthetics, creating images that radiate joy and passion. However, versatility is one of her greatest strengths. From capturing the elegance of a wedding to the sleek beauty of a fashionable motorcycle, Bullard adapts her approach to suit each of her subjects.

“I love working with different styles and subjects; it feels good to know in some way I am improving my work by working with different things and adding my own touch to them,” Bullard said. “Whether it’s people, events, or even vehicles, every shoot feels unique to me, and I enjoy finding creative ways to bring out the best shot in each one.”

“She’s so professional and knows everything about lighting, angles, and posing. She was also hilarious to talk with while doing our scheduled shoot so it made smiling feel natural,” senior and client Folu Olajide said. “Additionally, she got the photos edited and sent out to me so quickly without losing quality; it was like she had a whole team edit them.”

She has turned her passion into a growing business, building a newfound brand that reflects her vibrant personality and artistic vision. As she prepares to graduate, her future looks as bright as the flash on her camera with plans to expand her business and continue refining her craft; she is ready to take her photographic skills to the next level. 

“Starting my own business was definitely intimidating at first, but I’ve learned so much along the way, and it’s been amazing to see how far I’ve come,” Bullard said. “I’m very excited to see where this new journey takes me. Photography has opened so many doors for me, and I can’t wait to explore all my options and keep honing my skills to be the best I can be.”
