Everyday, students come to school in order to learn what they need to be successful after high school. Some of these students have been attending school in this district their whole lives. Some transferred in middle or high school, or this might be their very first year here. In the time students have spent enrolled in school, not only have they learned academic skills, but they have also learned historic and social information about the high school. Students and staff members were quizzed to test their knowledge about the school and things they have learned in their time here.
There are quite a few teachers who have been here for a very long time, but who has roamed these halls the longest? Here’s what students said when asked “Which teacher has been here the longest?”
“Mr. Massey,” -Lauren Ellis, senior
“Probably Mr. Massey” – Harley Goeringer, sophomore
“Either Doc Rob or Mr Elam.” – Gustavo Blanco, junior
The answer is… Ms. Yancy. She has been a teacher here for 33 years.
Ms. Yancy couldn’t have been teaching here for so long without there being a building for her to teach in. The district has been established since 1902, so we asked, “What year was our school established?” Here are student and staff answers:
“1978,” – Jayda Porter, junior
“1972” – Kurstyn Pearson, sophomore
“1608” – Colton Jones, junior
The year the school opened it’s doors was 1917. There have been over a hundred years worth of Joshua Owls.
Every passing period seems to give students an idea of the large amount of people who are in the building everyday. But just how many is that? Here’s what students and staff said when asked, “How many students are currently enrolled at our school?”
“Probably a thousand?” – Aleyna Garza, senior
“Maybe five million” – Dylan Neff, junior
“I would guess at least 800” – Adelia Vogelgesang, junior
The amount of students our school has is 1,788.
All 1,788 students have to pick an extracurricular activity to participate in for credits and to fill up their day. Students and staff were asked which extracurricular they think is the most popular. Here’s what they said:
“I would say probably Athletics, specifically football, and band” – Michael Clayton, Assistant Principal
“Athletics” – Sophie Leon, junior
“I’d say culinary” – Stevie Martinez, junior
The answer is…. Athletics, mainly football, and Agriculture. Mr. Clayton was so close with his answer.
Joshua is constantly growing and changing over time. There is still so much rich history and fun facts about our school to learn each and every day.
