The school has many different extracurriculars and clubs. For students who want to go above and beyond to improve their artistic abilities and creativity, an after-school Art Club is offered. The Art Club is run by art teacher Kami Yielding, with the Ninth Grade Campus art teacher Dawn Beaver. It does a lot for the school, Joshua’s community, and the students.
“It allows the students to showcase art in the community,” Yielding said. “[It] is also a place for students who love art to meet with other students with like minds. We paint windows for spirit weeks and holidays. We face paint for events, and we have also painted murals for buildings in the community.”
The students in Art Club are hardworking, artistic, and creative. The overall community is accepting and always willing to help students improve on their art.
“In Art Club, you will see students who enjoy art at different skill levels,” Beaver said. “It gives like-minded, artistic students a place to connect and create.”
The club has been around for a long time. At the very least it’s been around for seven years. Both Yielding and Beaver have been running it for a while.
“This is my seventh year teaching Art Club,” Yielding said. “It’s full of laughter, positivity, and sharing ideas with one another.”
The club isn’t just fun for students, it’s also enjoyable for those who run it. Both Yielding and Beaver have different perspectives as to why they enjoy it. Still, both of them enjoy running the club and interacting with their students.
“I enjoy having the opportunity to spend time with my former students in Art Club,” Beaver said, “I like to see how far their art skills have grown.”
