Former 2011 Joshua High School graduate, Thomas Franklin, completed Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia on August 6, 2014.

After Franklin lost his father in his early years of high school, Lt. Col. Jim Davidson worked to help shape this young man who he knew was “bright, athletic, and had plenty of leadership potential.”

From the time Franklin became part of the NJROTC family at the young age of 13, he knew he could set his sights far higher than his original dreams of enlistment in the Coast Guard. After graduating high school where he gained NJROTC experience in roles such as Rifle Team Captain for three years, Platoon Commander, Operations Officer, and Commanding Officer, Franklin attended the New Mexico Military Institute. After just one year of attendance, he received 41 credit hours.

“The United States Marine Corps took notice and offered him an $185,000 scholarship,” Davidson said. “Franklin then transferred to TAMU, where he joined the Corps of Cadets and [is majoring] in international studies.”

He is expected to graduate from TAMU in 2015, and be commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant just two months before his 22 birthday.
